iPads & Apple IDs

Creating an Apple ID

An Apple ID is your user name for everything you do with Apple: Shop the iTunes Store, enable iCloud on all your devices, buy from the Apple Online Store, make a reservation at an Apple Retail Store, access the Apple Support website, and more. More information about Apple ID.

The first App we need to acquire from the Apple App Store is Acrobat Reader. We will use this App to read and write on PDF files including the iPad Use Agreement form.  You will need to sign this form electronically and email it to me to complete the check out process.

A second App that I recommend is the WordPress App. This will be useful for our mLearning exploration. (You might get this app for your Smart phone as well).

The iPad that is assigned to you becomes your responsibility until you turn it back in at the end of the semester. The details of that responsibility are specified in the iPad Use Agreement form.

In addition to the iPad, you will be receiving a Logitech iPad keyboard. The keyboard that is assigned to you becomes your responsibility until you turn it back in at the end of the semester. The keyboard comes with a charging plug and basic directions for use. For more information about the Logitech Ultrathin Magnetic clip-on keyboard cover follow this link.

To better protect your iPad and keyboard, I recommend investing in a protective bag like the one I have.

At the end of the semester: (returning your iPad)

When you turn in the iPad, you will need to go through the reset process to erase all content and settings. The reset process is linked from the General Settings page of your Settings App.

Prior to resetting your iPad, you will want to save your apps and their content to your iCloud.

iOS: Understanding ‘Erase All Content and Settings’

(Instructions for erasing all content and settings for your iPad are available from the above link. If you want access to any of the information in the future, make sure you have an iCloud or iTunes backup and that it is up to date before erasing.  The erase process should take just a few minutes. iPads are to be turned in on Thursday 10 December AFTER you have successfully erased all content and settings).
